Why Pride in the Job?
Established in 1981, Pride in the Job remains fundamental to NHBC’s mission to raise standards in house building. This prestigious competition engages and inspires site managers and their teams to deliver the highest-quality homes. It is the one that all site managers want to win, allowing them to make their mark on the industry. Pride in the Job is also accessible, as every site manager with a site registered for an NHBC Buildmark warranty is automatically entered. The competition covers England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, and is open to businesses of all sizes with no fee or entry forms to complete.
Inspiring excellence
As well as the friendly competition between site managers which encourages them to focus on quality, it also nurtures new and interesting perspectives on how the house-building industry does things, leading to innovations, developments in practices and small enhancements. Over time these are all shared and help to set the new improved standard.

How Pride in The Job works
Pride in the Job is well-established and highly regarded in the house-building industry and is the most notable benchmark for exceptional site managers. That is why the winners are subject to a robust judging process. For the initial nominations sites are judged by the local NHBC building inspector and their inspection manager. The local NHBC regional director and an inspection manager then narrow these nominations down to select the Quality Award winners. At the Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards level the local regional director, an additional regional director and an external, independent judge will inspect the sites. And for the Supreme Awards two regional directors and an external, independent judge will determine the ultimate winners.
High hopes for high-rise
The house-building industry is constantly looking to adapt and evolve to meet the new challenges it faces and Pride in the Job is no different, which is why 2023 is the right time to introduce a new award. Together with the existing categories of small builder, medium builder, large builder and multi-storey, there will now be a new fifth category: high-rise.

Pride in the Job is a well-known and highly respected competition across the UK but in Northern Ireland, in particular, it has become a key event and offers those who attend the chance to not only be recognised for their year-round hard work, but also provides a rare opportunity to network, collaborate and celebrate the achievements of this unique community.
